I saw the documentary ‘Black Fish’ on CNN and all I can say is EVERYONE should watch it and ‘The Cove’ before going to a park like Sea World. They disgust me now, I’m ashamed to say I went when I was younger. These are just SOME of the whales Sea World has kidnapped, inbred, let die, etc. PASS IT ON!
I watched Blackfish this evening with my housemates. Being a student of animal behaviour and welfare, I can safely say that it was an emotional experience. A good one, however. People need to be trained, qualified, and have the right safety precautions if they plan to continue on with using these animals in show. (not that I agree I’m just saying) We need to understand and respect that these are wild animals, who are used to roaming a vast vast amount of ocean in family groups in a day. We need to educate people on such creatures. Education and knowledge is where it all starts, everyone. Leave the orcas where they are, and everyone will benefit..
I could go on, but I don’t want to get too self righteous.
So around November a friend gave me a deer carcass for a project I’m in the process of cultivating. I left it hang in a tree over winter to dry out. Today, I went to take it down…but to my surprise, I found new life forming in the heart of death.
THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME
i just watched this five times in a row
African American doctors attempting to save the life of a Klu Klux Klan member:
This photo left me speechless, this is what respect is.
this is what grace is
I never scroll pass this photo.. This is humanity, a lot of people can learn from this picture.
this too powerful for me not to reblog
Um does….anyone…know the severity of punishment those doctors would get if they DIDNT treat him? like, you guys do know they seriously HAD to treat him or they could be charged in his death, right?
I keep forgetting that people don’t realize that this was a magazine ad, and not an actual photo.
And yes, if it was a real situation they’d be royally fucked and out of jobs and in jail if they hadn’t treated him.
Link to the Snopes entry for those interested.
i can wait… :’(

- Transatlantic slave trade
- The Middle Passage
- The history of White American racism
- Black Codes

- Ku Klux Klan
- The War on Drugs
- Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
- How white racism grew out of slavery and genocide
- How whites still benefit from slavery and genocide
- White anti-racism
- The Southern strategy
- The rape of black slave women
- Madison Grant
- The Indian Wars
- Human zoos
- How the Jews became white
- White flight
- Proposition 14
- Homestead Act
- Tulsa Riots
- Rosewood massacre
- Tuskegee Experiment
- Hollywood stereotypes
- Indian Appropriations Acts
- Immigration Act of 1924
- Sundown towns
- Chinese Exclusion Act
- Emmett Till
- Vincent Chin
- Indian boarding schools
- King Philip’s War
- Bacon’s Rebellion
- American slavery compared to Arab, Roman and Latin American slavery
- History of the gun
- History of the police
- History of prisons
- History of white suburbia
- Lincoln’s racism and anti-racism
- George Wallace
- Fox News
- Real estate steering
- School tracking
- Mass incarceration of black men
- Boston school busing riots
And so on. No fear of running out of topics: there is more than one a day! I am sure my commenters can come up with tons more, probably some big ones that are not coming to mind at the moment (I did not list slavery, the abolitionist movement, the civil war, Reconstruction or Lincoln since they are, in fact, covered in history class, however poorly).
Teddy Roosevelt’s diary entry from the day his wife died. He never spoke of her death again.
i reblog this every time its on my dash
this is so sad

It’s true what he says though - there is no subject position from which it’s ok to talk about inequality - if you’re poor you are doing it out of jealously, if you’re not poor you’re doing it out of guilt/saviour complex, if you are young it’s just a phase, if you’re old you are hankering for times long gone and trying to recapture your youth, if you’re not well educated you just don’t understand the complexity of the situation, if you are well educated you’re in an academic bubble divorced from reality, if your politically apathetic you’re not allowed to complain, if you’re politically active you’re just trying to push your own sectarian agenda…
For every possible type of person there’s an established reason why your opinions on inequality are invalid. That’s not an accident.
Relevant, and important to understand.
